Referee ... a hell of a job

Do you want to be the referee today ? A simple question when looking at the soccer match of my son Finn (9 years) and a simple answer: sure, no problem. Never thought about the words you get thrown at you by both players and even parents. You can never satisfy everyone and you try your best but it appears as if winning the champions league depends on your judgements. Almost had to send a 9-year old off the pitch ... for swaring at me, just in time, he saw my "smoking" eyes and apologized. Never had so much "fun" at a saturday morning ... see you next week !

Skiing in Flims

With the family on a beautiful ski-week in Switzerland. The kids just go down slopes we think twice and we have to really speed it up to catch them before we reach the lifts. Beautiful to see and proud to have such sportive sons. They just love it. Even had the experience of yellow snow when Bo was too late for the loo and let it go on the piste ... laughing and crying at the same time.

Little Boys grow Old

This weekend the birthday of Jess who turned 11 years. The one moment just a boy, playing with Playmobil, the other a young man cursing on the soccer field like a pro. Last year before he will go to a new school and will really grow a big boy. Have to love and enjoy him before he moves out.

Talent Management Learnings

The roll-out of our new Talent Management program has proven me new insights in how to develop myself and my (in)direct reports. Although well-experienced on the concept, I learned some valuable new views on e.g. focus and underlying drivers. Also some lessons learned for future improvements, such as (corporate) templates and differences between theory and practice. Never too late to learn !

New Technology

We just heard that we will have the Microsoft Office Communicator (OCS) rolled-out as a pilot within the Netherlands. Great news for people travelling up-and-down branch-offices many times (like me lately ... ;-)) because it will allow us to phone, e-mail, chat, share documents and programs and even video conference behind our desk ... Immediately volunteered for the first pilot and awaiting the benefits for the day-to-day routine. Good news on a steamy day !
